As we agreed at our May 2009 board meeting, I have started discussion groups on the six "visioning" topics that will help guide our work in the coming year. Has anyone thought about the limitations of educating for college and work force readiness?

Thank you, Jill, for an inspring "mini retreat." I am excited to present CLAS to my fellow teachers at Lake I.S. and am looking forward to participating as the Urban School liaison.

Although I wasn't very persistent or clear when asking my question at our Saturday meeting, I do think it would be wise if we were to have somewhat of a united voice and consistent message. That will mean that I (and perhaps you all as well) will need to look at the standards and strategies very closely and then have some productive discussion. I wonder, for example, whether Mike, Mark, and Paul felt that a particular message of theirs needs to be heard again or whether they have a point we can help to reinforce. If I do not get to the Denver meeting, I'll be at the Littleton/Lone Tree one.

I'm planning on attending the Littleton session and would appreciate a discussion beforehand of the standards and of strategies to speak to them at the meetings--if we get a chance.

Thanks, Stevi, for sending along this message about the meetings regarding standards. I plan to go to the May 21 one, and I hope to see several of the CLAS board there since this is the one in the Denver area. There seems to be much to learn about this revision and what it will mean for teachers and students in English classes.
